We're Using Lazers to Trap and Isolate Ions
An ion is an atom that happens to have charge. And no, we don't confine them with lazers. We confine or ions based on their charge. So our ion trapd chip, we call it a chip because it ech is made of silican. Nothing quantum about it. It's t room temperature. They produce electric fields that hold the atoms in place. There are a bunch of electrodes near by that support them and so forth. What i'm talking about as engineering, all the control systems, the lazers, we poke on them. We use lazers tot actually cool them. All that stuff’s engineering. The only physics is the atom itself
