The History of the Bulgar Empire

The bulgarian empire expanded and became a serious threat to the byzantines. New fortifications were built in defence of constantinople, which was able to prevent krum from ransacking the city. A few decades after his reign, another khan called boris made the bold move of christianizing bulgaria. But he was shrewd about his approach, choosing to hedge his bets by showing degrees of loyalty to both the christian patriarchs of Constantinople and Rome. This would lead to a golden age in bulgarian history.
