Odysseus's Last Days Had Been a Dream

Odysseus and his crew faced a choice between gambling with the gods or starvation. The men slaughtered one of the cattle and feasted for six days. Odysseus abstained, eating whatever plants he could find to stave off the hunger pains. He was angry, of course, but he also knew what this meant. Every man he had led, fought with and lived with would be gone before he reached home. Up above them, a solitary cloud had formed. Their past had come hunting for them. It was time.
