Many diners were pre fabricated as modular units and specifically designed to be taken by truck or train to their final destination, hence the long and narrow layout. In some cases, actual dining cars were also converted into free standing diners. And in other cases, diners are simply made to look like classic prefaps for that mistalgic appeal.
