There's for me a very memorable scene when Ashenba observes Taja on the beach and Taja is writing in the sand. One of the reasons that this novella is so disturbing, I mean powerful, we're still reading it,. but so disturbing is because of this sort of manipulated narrative perspective. And so as the novella goes on, basically the distance between the narrator and Ashenba just dissolves increasingly.
