The History of Book History

In 15th century London, illustrated French books represented the prestige of the aristocracy. Henry and his patron set out to bring aristocratic prestige to a new audience. He turned prose into rhyming couplets; it's already going to change quite a lot about the way the story is told. But when modern readers came to this text in the 20th century, they judged Henry to be a bad translator because by then people had different definitions of good poetry.
