The Initiation Rituals Mark the Passage From Childhood to Adulthood

In ancient cultures, when human beings reach adolescence, they often had to go through initiation rituals. They died in the world where to face a dangerous situation like going out into the wilderness or facing dangerous animals. So there were things about deepening. Once you emerged from the ritual, you were an adult. You were not enlightened, but you had face deaths and there was a deepening that happened in you. And I don't believe it is a disguised form of wishing for death. To be in a state where you don't fear death is a clear sign that you come a long way.
