A Brief History of Ashur
Ashur was founded at the height of sumerian rule on a bank of the river tigris in northern irak. It would have been a town of tents and houses built from river clay thatched with reeds. By the second millennium, many of its houses were spacious mansions for wealthy families to keep their valuables. The city became home no fewer than 34 temples to the various gods worshipped by all the people of mesopotamia.
