Final Cut Pro 10 allows assets, proxies, and cached renders to be segmented out on different volumes and storage types. That is extremely useful and necessary in professional video editing environments. I don't see a new project format coming along soon on the Mac side to replace that if it needs to adhere to the current limitations of iPadOS.
