The Ontological Difference Between the Voicemail and the Video Recording

There's an argument to be made that the same is not true of hearing. That there is not an ontological difference between a trombone recorded and one you hear live. And I think this can be understood in terms of our experience of causality at the level of perception. When we only have the sound without any visual correlate, we have the effect, but we don't have the cause. It means that there is a costless effect just floating around.
