The Christian Connection With Islam
Christian connection with Islam dates from an even earlier period, when some pre-Islamic Arabs were seeking the Hanifi faith. If Christians should stand in need of assistance for the repair of their churches or monasteries, Muslims were to assist them. It was a Christian monk, according to Islamic tradition, who first informed the polytheist Arabs among whom Muhammad was being brought up that he was to become a spiritual teacher. This aspect of our common history entitles us to think in terms of an alliance of attitude, which present-day conditions make it possible to invoke and examine.
