The History of Telephones
By the 1850s, there were hundreds of direct connections between cities and towns operated by a few major telegraph companies. Antonio Mayucci set up a laboratory in his basement that he first began working on electromagnetic voice communications or what he would call a teletorfono. He immigrated to the United States in 1850, settling in Rosebank, Staten Island. In this case, we'll be speaking about an earlier attempt at voice communication before Bell's patent.
