The History of Agriculture in Greece

Hesiod's works and days provide a vivid account of the agricultural year. Few small farms were entirely self-sufficient, meaning they produced themselves the everyday necessities and foodstuffs that they needed to survive. Agricultural products traded with ingress between citizens in the agora included grain, grapes, wine, olives, figs, pulses, cheese, honey, livestock meat and hides. The best known silver mines are those at Ubea for copper and iron, syphos for gold and cespress for silver and copper.
