Thomson's Big Warbly Sponge Like Atom

Harry Rutherford was a PhD student at the time that Thomson is doing his pioneering experiments in the late 1890s. He then goes off and makes his name as a pioneer of nuclear physics in the first decade of the 20th century. And he does a very famous experiment where he essentially uses radioactive atoms to fire what are called alpha particles.
