The Difference Between Anki and Language Learning

As a researcher, doing your PhD is regimented in some ways and you have that familiarity of having done it before done school. For engineering, I don't need to know everything I've learned in engineering at every instance. And if I spend time maintaining a bunch of knowledge that I'm not going to actively use for years, it's kind of a waste of time - especially the cost of making Anki cards.
