René Girard says our world is now in the midst of the apocalypse Jesus predicted. But curiously he says, we are less and less able to recognize what is really going on because Christianity has been increasingly set aside as a possible form of explanation. The Enlightenment thinks it knows everything because it just got rid of religion,. And he thinks that religion is totally responsible for violence. This, I think, occurs in the 18th century.
