The Origins of Arbor Day

The modern Arbor Day got its start in a very unlikely place for tree planting, Nebraska. In 1972, President Richard Nixon issued a proclamation encouraging Americans to observe Arbor Day and to pledge their dedication to protecting our natural resources.
