New Grange - The Origin of Passage Graves

New grange is 76 meters in diameter and 12 meters high. The outer wall, which sto the 12 meter elevation of the top of the mound, has been carefully constructed using stones. This roof box is built for a purpose, and the purpose is directly related to sunlight. Each year, on the winter solstice, sunlight enters the roof box and travels along the 63 foot length of the passage,. illuminating the central chamber. Only part of the circle remains now, but there is debate as to whether the stone circle was constructed at the same time as the burial mound or whether it was added to the sit during the centuries after the site was first constructed.
