Trigger Warning: This interview includes frank, explicit, discussions about rape, sex trafficking, and suicide ideation that may be triggering to some. Listener discretion is advised.
In this compelling podcast episode we hear from Cristina, a sex trafficking survivor who, for the first time publicly, shares her story of being trafficked by the GirlsDoPorn producers.
In brave vulnerability, Cristina describes the realities of sex trafficking in the U.S., the impact of pornography creation and consumption, and the long road to healing and justice for people who are trafficked into this industry.
Cristina reveals the tactics used by traffickers to lure vulnerable women, including herself, into the sex trade, the psychological and verbal abuse she endured, and the impact it has had on her mental health and well-being.
The GirlsDoPorn trafficking case was a high-profile legal battle that exposed the exploitative and abusive practices of the porn industry. In 2019, the owners and employees of the website GirlsDoPorn were indicted on charges of sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion. The company was one of Pornhub's biggest partner channels, with 680 million views, and Exodus Cry helped to bring global attention to this case through the Traffickinghub campaign.
The creators of the website, which purported to be a legitimate adult entertainment site, actually coerced young women into performing sex acts on camera under false pretenses, and then posted the videos online without their consent. Both of the creators and owners of GirlsDoPorn have now been convicted of and jailed for sex trafficking and other heinous crimes.
The case brought attention to the wider issue of exploitation and trafficking in the porn industry and highlighted the need for stronger protections for performers, as well as clearer regulations to prevent such abuses from occurring in the future.
