The Night of Alec and Ares
Alec was sent to bed by Ares, but he refused to be sent to bed like a child. He found an empty bit of grass near the fire and laid back to listen. An old gray-haired woman was telling a story in masterful tones. She told how Pan thought he could play better than Apollo on his harp. The first touch from Alec's fingers was sweet and warm as honey spread thick. It was natural and swelling, like the gentle roar-hiss of the ocean breaking and receding. After she finished her tale, Alec drifted off into a sweet and dreamless sleep.
