A vector is a way of carrying things, generally speaking, but here, information or DNA. There's many types of vectors that we can use in biology and particularly gene engineering. Inactivated viruses like dendovirus were used for the malaria vaccine. Plasmids are actually bacterial DNA; they're sort of standalones with circular aspects.
In this episode, Dr Matt and Dr Mike discuss how humans realised that bacteria could fight off viruses using sequences in their DNA called, CRISPR. Today, CRISPR technology is being used to cure cancer and investigate the cause of genetic disease.
