The idea is the human mind on the way towards like madness is in another sense an adjustment to a alien world. In Lovecraft so like you become mad and by mad we mean tuned into whatever is going on around you in this word space. So yes with a driving home the cat's on the road it is skinless and very pissed off. Yeah and weirdly alien right again it's being sort of deformed reshaped by the by the energies.
