Maine Indian Basketmakers - The University of Maine Sustainable Solutions Initiative
Gabe grew up in traditional Passamaquoddy territory between present-day Portland and Littleton, what today is known as Down East Maine. He and his wife Suzanne are part of the University of Maine's Sustainable Solutions Initiative (SSI), funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation. SSI focuses on engaging Indigenous research methods and knowledge to recognize and prioritize the ecological and cultural importance of the Black Ash.
