Women's Public Toilets - The Great Exhibition
Men had urinals, which could be used for free. But all of the water closets, to use them, one had to pay a penny. Still, the great exhibition public toilets were deemed an enormous success. They were used over 800,000 times and raised over 2,000 pounds. Even after the expo, no one wanted to commit to permanent public toilets for British women.
