The History of Prostitution in the US

In 1864, England semi adopted the French system by passing the Contagious Diseases Act. In 1897, New Orleans Red Light District Storyville was created. The US Navy forced the city to shut it down in 1917 during World War I. Chicago vice report out of 1911 pointed out that prostitution remained a vexing problem with public policy.
