The Other Is Remote, but Unreliable
Each of us is constantly finding himself in a position of contest. I identify myself with a collective we, which is then contrasted with some other. What we are or what the other is will depend upon context. In every case, we attribute qualities to the other according to its relation to ourselves. If anything in my immediate vicinity is out of my control, that thing becomes a source of fear.
