Is the Magna Carta a Foundational Aspect for the English Move Away From Absolute Monarchy?

Is the magna carta a really a foundational aspect for the english move away from absolute monarchy? Or is it something that is just so attenuated that they just later picked up on it and grabbed the pieces that they liked? That's a really great question.
