This is exactly the tactic that George Wallace's campaign manager would take against Neil Young. Look up the 1975 article in Cream Magazine by Robert Criskow, who for some reason always had a massive boner for Skinner. Read what Ronnie Van Sant says to Criskow about the fact, the fact that if Leonard Skinner were asked to perform a fundraiser for George Wallace, they would do it.
