The Freedom School in Mississippi
The freedom summer was a really incredible example of that. Some black civil rights workers and white student volunteers actually spent the summer running these schools all over mississippi. The goal was to plant seeds in the minds of those young people who were definitely not supposed to think for themselves according to the race's power structure. They're teaching black history, including african history. And they're talking to them about the political and economic realities of jim crow.
