When you lack strong unions on an industrial or just total socity level, wages get depressed. Over all benefits get depressed. Working conditions get depressed over all. And also, we had emember that whn during the mc carthy era, the a unions threw out the communists, socialists and leftists from their unions. Those people were the spark of the unions. They believed in worker power, and they became much more pork chop unions. Of course, they should have called a general strike. When the gas workers go on strike, so do the subway workers. There's a kind of solidarity which is considered communist and was smashed during the fifties when they fired all the air traffic controllers
