Riht: cassandra is a useful speck, case people can go and implement it easily. It's been really fascinating to follow some of the ideas that people at silla have taken and applied to that. And what you'll start to see that the successful ideas from these other projects will start to filter into the apache cassandra project. Riht: i always get a litte bit sad that maybe some of these ideas didn't get explored within the apacheCassandra community.

Summary
The Cassandra database is one of the first open source options for globally scalable storage systems. Since its introduction in 2008 it has been powering systems at every scale. The community recently released a new major version that marks a milestone in its maturity and stability as a project and database.
