After a long winter, the world was coming back to life. The people of the isle of wight were accustomed to seeing all manner of ships from their shores. But they probably got a little nervous when the ships reached landfall and hordes of heavily armed foreign sailors disembarked. At that point, i'm guessing that unfirth of white may have started wondering if that comet was a bad omen after all. And as for tostig, i wouldn't be surprised if he also interpreted that comet as a sign for him or for his brother. Either way, though, he was now back in england with an army.
