The Life of Wendell
Wendell was so isolated and fearful of people knowing he was gay that the odds of him meeting anyone were slim to none. I knew from spending a few hours with Wendell how lonely he was, so I didn't tell him what I really thought. He said, do you think it's too late for me to meet someone? So I said, that I thought it was never too late. But of course I didn't believe it. We never spoke again, but I think of Wendell often and the life he might have had if he had been born in 1958 the year I was born instead of 1904.
