The Attention Economy: A Problem for Children's Media

The attention economy, or surveillance capitalism, is a system for making money off getting people's attention. The more eyeballs in the terminology that are on a thing, the more money will be made. And then when that system is largely automated, really, really weird and often quite terrible stuff starts happening. We're in this very weird position now where technology and technological companies have got such kind of momentum that it's almost impossible to imagine that you would just shut down.
