The Evolution of Tech Firms and Monopolies
The pretense that all of this stuff is untouched by human hands is not only wrong. I think ultimately, like it doesn't serve these firms. As monopolies grow as choice dwindles and as firms are able to resolve the collective action problem of lobbying for favorable regulation, they become neither disciplined by regulation nor by competition. And so once the end users are kind of stuck, you can treat them worse and use the fact that you're treating them worse. That's a process I've been recently calling in shitification.
