The subjects in the study were given a gelaton capsule with methaline blue and lactos ten minutes prior to induction of anesthesia. They were all then induced with propophal and fentinel, and they were maintained with halthane such that they were maintaining spontaneous ventilation. No die was identified in any of the face mask patients. The authors concludeit based upon this finding, that the l may place his patients at a higher risk of regurgetation of gastric contents and potentially at aHigher risk of pulmonary aspiration.
