The printer is really one of the stock professions of the early American Republic. He would get rags from people, buy rags and send it to the paper mills to turn into paper. Newspaper business though was a very dirty, grimy, difficult labor-intensive business. And so he probably employed young men, he had his own apprentices in the United States.
