Lacan, I Think That's Right. And I Think What Right?
In seminar 11, Lacan gives two basic examples of the gaze. One is a painting by Hans Holbein called the ambassadors. The other one comes in a story that he tells about going when he was a young intellectual. And it's because she sees this failure of that this sardine can represents this failure of the gaze,. Like or the gaze as failure, like he he isn't seen by it. It's interesting to me that Joan doesn't follow him there but I think it's because of this Kantian versus Hegelian dynamic.
