I was almost going to ask you about being a dad again. You raise kids who've done really well. I'm sure there are bumps in the road, like there is for everybody. But i think just try to be there and listen to them and tend where they're coming from. What their needs and desires are, how they see themselves. And it's ok. By the way, the same a is true as a leader in business. You have to let people grow in the way they want to grow. It's not that much different, in a sense.

He is the author of Discover Your True North, Authentic Leadership, and 7 Lessons for Leading in Crisis. Bill is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Medtronic. He joined Medtronic in 1989 as president and chief operating officer, was the CEO from 1991-2001, and board chair from 1996-2002. Earlier in his career, he was a senior executive with Honeywell and Litton Industries and served in the U.S. Department of Defense.
