The point of the research is not simply to test for altheims, et cetera. The bigger, broader question is whether maslinmes can become another kind of model organism. Now there are very few types of model organisms, which are zebra finches, fruit flies, mice. But they are things that scientists can coalesce around and do a lot of research on. And what was discovered in existing colonies of maslimers was that, unlike mice, as they age, they tend to get some of the diseases that older humans get.
