For the wealthy, holding balls was an important part of social life. Primarily, it was a way for families to meet up - particularly for nger generations to meet their prospective marriage partners. How did ball room dancing become more democratic? Several things were happening around the end of the nineteenth century, beginning of the twentieth century. Money time and looking for novelty.
