Introduction

This chapter explores the role of translation into Latin in the rediscovery of ancient philosophy. It discusses the annoyance caused by unnecessary English words in German language and draws a parallel with borrowing of words in philosophy. It also examines the transliteration of Greek words into Arabic and their later translation into Latin, showcasing examples of Arabisms used by Adelard of Bath.
