All Drag Performance Restricted Under Tennessee's Obscenity Law
House Bill 9 would ban all adult entertainment that is harmful to minors from public property and places where the performers might be seen by children. The law specifically mentions go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, as well as male or female impersonators - drag entertainers. A first violation would be a misdemeanor, which carries a sentence of up to 11 months and 29 days in prison and or a fine of up to $2,500. Subsequent violations would be classified as a felony punishable by up to six years in prison and a fine ofup to $3,000.
