I think there is an element of it just broke a bunch of unstated rules. And it did so brilliantly, but it was hard to see that because the rules are so prominent in your brain. I think this universal roots is like these classic monster movies. Here you have these three guys who are trying to bring back horror at a major level. It's very interesting. The framing of these three guys where it's like Universal's making a big play for like big budget horror with real directors and shit.
