The Importance of Demography in Russia's National Security
It's primarily geographic so if you look at a map of the northern European plane you can basically drive tanks from Paris all the way to Moscow without Meeting a natural boundary and as you get closer to Moscow it widens. So that means Russia just has to continue pushing out as far as it can which is why Ukraine is such an important Piece of Russia national security. If you can take all of Ukraine You get to the Carpathian Mountains and you at least shrink the northern Europe plane to an extent that you can defend it a little bit better than otherwise.
