The rate of maternal mortality rose by 40% in 2021, according to new CDC data. Women died at a rate of 33 deaths for every 100,000 live births; that rate is more than twice as high for black women. A Texas man is suing three women under the state's wrongful death law. He's suing them on the grounds that they helped his ex-wife and her pregnancy by helping her to get a medication abortion.
