I think it's very much romanticizing romance. I think a lot of what people must understand about the graduate is that romance is enough. And two people who don't know who they are, who think they'll find each other in each other. Tom does not see summer and he does not hear summer. He is a person totally in his imagination. It has no awareness that he doesn't, he has no awareness at all about anything.
