How Do You Have Difficult Conversations With People?

How do you go about having difficult conversations with people that you work with? Me personally, i'm very blunt and very direct. I think it attracts a different kind of person internally. Different partners have very different styles. Other people are away more diplomatic than me on the team. But i really feel you waste so much time if you are not direct and honest.
