Our ancestors had to increase the size of groups in order to protect themselves from external threats. This created an extra pressure to live in bigger and bigger groups. And what came in as a series of behaviours, which are still all part of our sort of social talk. It actually things like laughter as a form of chorusing singing, singing without words, dancing,. Things like feasting together, telling emotional sub stories and religion - those last three had to wait for fully modern language, human language, to evolve.
