If you're in a position to give them some help by giving them honest feedback, then you really should. Other people who aren't their friends are not going to spare them their criticism. The one thing that happens once you become more and more committed to being honest is you train the people in your life. They know what to expect from you. And then peoplewill return the favor. If you're someone who was really honest in criticising what somebody was doing, and then you need criticism of your own work, well then you can get it. It's always interesting to look back on the aise one received for things that one now thinks were terrible.
